It is analyst Ming-Chi Kuo at TF International Securities, often precise in his statements, who mentions the launch of a Foldable iPhone 15 in 2023. “We expect Apple to likely release a foldable ‌iPhone‌ with an 8-inch QHD + flexible Oled display in 2023, with SDC. [Samsung Displays] as the exclusive display supplier and Samsung Foundry as the exclusive DDI foundry supplier. Based on the capacity plan requested by Apple, we expect foldable iPhone shipments to reach 15-20 million units in 2023 ”. With an 8-inch slab, the foldable iPhone would grow larger than the iPad mini (7.9 inches) and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 (7.6 inches).

According to Kuo, Apple will use silver nanowires for the touchscreen interface, which will give the company a “long-term competitive advantage” over current Y-OCTA (Youm On-Cell Touch AMOLED) technology. This report claimed that Apple’s biggest sticking point was the hinge, which Ming-Chi Kuo did not mention in his analysis.
