Tiobe Index: C# Popularity Soars in May 2022
The C# programming language experienced a marked resurgence in interest in May, according to the latest ranking of the Tiobe index. Pointing to 5th place, it remains less popular than C++ and C.
Microsoft’s C# programming language has seen a spike in popularity, according to the Tiobe Programming Community Index. While C# still ranked fifth in the Tiobe Index for May 2022, unchanged from May 2021, its rating jumped almost two percentage points from a year ago.
C#’s popularity reached 6.39% for May 2022 according to the latest Tiobe Programming Language Index rankings. An increase of 1.98 points compared to 4.41% last year. According to the software quality service provider, C# emerges as one of the most mature languages in existence, supporting many modern programming paradigms. More and more users have started using C# on Linux over the past two years. Tiobe thinks the “chances are high” that C# could replace C among the top three languages in the index. C++ is also on the rise, its score having increased by 1.01 points over the past year.

The Tiobe Index is based on a formula that rates the number of qualified engineers, number of courses and third-party vendors associated with each language. Ratings are calculated using search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo and Wikipedia.
